What is a gradient map? It's an adjustment layer that converts the tones of your image to the whatever gradient you have. You don't have to work with grayscale images. While you can use gradient maps to color-correct and make adjustments, we're going use it to make stuff funky.
This is approximately how a gradient map works. Each of the top circles' gray is converted to the corresponding bottom circle's color.( Read more... )
I made a whole bunch of icons from 2000ad about a decade ago (I've been through a few computers in the interim so I can't be certain) and I'm trying to continue the prog slog(1) I thought it would be interesting to compare how I used to do icons (extremely simply) and now (sometimes extremely complicated).

(1) 2000ad issues are called 'progs' as in short for programme. So reading a whole lot of them is called a 'prog slog'
