I have no more ratties. I had to put down Ed last week. Ed had a big abscess that was possibly cancer and was getting smaller abscesses. I could tell ed wasn’t feeling good and ed had very little energy and was losing mobility in eds back legs. So I made the call. I’ll continue […]

I’m switching the domain to silvers.space with silversspace.com and silversspace.net as redirects for those weirded out by the new domain extensions. The old domain will work for an undetermined time (until it expires). Please update your bookmarks accordingly.

I’ve updated the settings of the plug-in to make it clearer that not all the post is being crossposted and why. So text past the first paragraph or so (not sure where the cut off is) and pictures won’t show up on Dreamwidth or Livejournal. Please just click on through. You can comment wherever you read more »

Yeah, I’ve disappeared for a while. Between a two-week vacation with my family, the prep for that, a bout of depression afterward, and general laziness I haven’t done much.

And now it’s National Novel Writing Month, so I’m still going to be gone. I always say I’ll post some excerpts, then I’m too busy writing to do it, so I’m not going to say that this year. And I’ll probably be gone most of December, because, y’know holidays and family obligations and all that jazz.

Hey folks, this is me trying to trick you into thinking I’ve posted something new. Nope! Sorry! And I won’t be for a while! But I did go and edit the commentary for Detective Comics #33 (mostly to remove ableism on my part). So go read that! And remember comments = love. (TW: fictional terrorism, […]

I’m adapting this from silveradept because I know I often feel like I don’t have anything worthwhile to add on other blogs and it’s reasonable that others do too.

Any commentary that follows the comment policy is worthwhile (basics of the comment policy: don’t be a jerk). If you want to comment, do. If you don’t have the energy, don’t. You don’t have to agree with me and I assume good faith until proven otherwise.

I welcome any of the following types of comments on any of my posts:

  • very short comments, including single words (‘like’, ‘yes’, ‘agreed’, ‘flail’), punctuation marks (‘!!!’), +1, emoticons.
  • long, wordy comments. An essay or rambling is totally okay.
  • Comments and links on related topics.
  • Comments on single links, paragraphs or topics.
  • Sequential commentary. It’s okay to think of something else later and reply to yourself.
  • Discussion of other comments and with other commenters.
  • anonymous comments (on livejournal or dreamwidth. Comments at the main site require an email address).
  • comments from people who have never talked to me or that I’ve never met.
  • comments on old posts.
  • links to discussion of my posts on other sites.

How I reply:

  • I mostly reply to comments.
  • You’re never obligated to reply to my reply.

Linking to my entries:

  •  Go for it.
  •  I’d appreciate if you tell me where you linked, but it’s not required.

I’ve tried to add content notices for the links. Please let me know what I missed.

It’s here.

Starting today, this site is a Safe Space. Read the comment policy. It’s linked up top.

Posts and comments prior to this one do not consistently have content notices and trigger warnings. I’m going to work on it.

This year I wrote 135,000 words of fiction on six stories. I made a fool of myself here by posting a rough draft. I survived that with my self-esteem mostly intact. I won NaNoWriMo and got halfway through Camp NaNoWriMo. I’ve discovered booze I like and started a hell of a liquor cabinet. I tried to get readers here and mostly failed (blog catalogs don’t seem to work, triberr helps only a little). I posted here 56 times, on average twice a week, mostly.

On a more personal level, I moved into my own place, finally getting my stuff out of storage after about three years (although I still have quite a bit still packed because there’s no place to put it, or in a severely disorganized state). I’ve had the same boyfriend since approximately March. I’ve made several new friends and not been a complete hermit. I’m starting my third year working at the same place, where they seem to like me quite a lot and I have lots of free time (or I could do this on my breaks if I would actually remember to take them).

I’ve accomplished less than I would have liked to and more than I thought I would. I spent way too much monkey-clicking around the internet and napping.

So, next year, let’s try to do better! I have a plan (that I probably won’t stick to)!

Hey folks, how are you enjoying the blog?

I have a few more posts already lined up, but I have a couple of things I’d like to blog about that are going to take some prep. These include:

- Kimono stuff. Yeah, I collect and wear kimono, although I haven’t actually worn one in months. I keep meaning to wear them more often, but it takes a lot of time and energy.

This would include why I collect them (besides ‘they’re pretty and they make me feel pretty’), probably some highlights of my collection, and a pretty good how-to I made about how to tie an obi.

- Update on my place, including a bunch of cool vintage stuff I found quite a while ago that I just haven’t gotten the pictures up.

- Constructed languages. This probably will interest no one (unless I suddenly start getting a ton of links from one of the conlang boards), but I have fun with it. I have one language I’m working on lately, although I haven’t really done anything with it in a while. I’d also talk about why I do it, some of my old, really bad, languages, and I don’t know what else.

I could also do a couple of book reviews of Mark Rosenfelder’s The Language Construction Kit, Advanced Language Construction, and The Planet Construction Kit from the point of view of a very casual amateur.

- Some comic commentaries  done in the style of Mystery Science Theater. I have a few on my livejournal but I’d like to redo them, preferably with better writing. And rescanning some of the comics. Besides Thundercats comics (which are most of the ones that are already done, including some that aren’t up), there are some Batman comics I’d like to do. Part of the trouble with this is that I’d like to do more of the UK Thundercat comics, which are bigger, and thus won’t fit on my tiny scanner. And I really don’t want to stitch the pages together.

- Stuff from my old Thundercats site. Besides the comic stuff, I had a bunch of episodes nitpicked (but not nearly as many as I’d like). But unless I want to grab images from the DVDs, the screengrabs aren’t that great, as they’re from VHS tapes. I could also put up some of the better fanfic I wrote, which isn’t much. I think like two very short stories. There are much more prolific Thundercats fans out there, I’m afraid.

- Comic commentary of Captain Britain. Yeah, I don’t just read Batman.

- Giant pic dump of icons I’ve made from 2000AD stories. Technically it would be a repost of stuff from the livejournal.

Anyway, what would you all like to see? Some of the stuff above? More mid-century and vintage stuff? More Cocktails of the Night?

(I’ll be getting another Ben-Day Spots up tomorrow as well).
